The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is leading the charge in building automation with a game-changing project that is enhancing energy efficiency, streamlining operations, and saving big on energy costs!

By partnering with Altura Associates, UCI is modernizing its building systems across campus, including 23 buildings and counting, using advanced technologies like SkySpark® for fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) and the Niagara platform for supervisory control.

Key Achievements:

  • Saved $750,000 annually in energy costs
  • Improved building performance and efficiency with automated commissioning
  • Standardized systems for scalable, future-proof tech

Challenges? UCI faced a few, but the lessons learned about network topologies, vendor coordination, and cloud security are helping them build an even more sustainable and efficient future.

This project is proof that the future of smart buildings is here—and it’s powered by collaboration and innovation.
