This week's Realcomm advisory focuses on the GSA's BuildingLink project which utilizes SkySpark analytics across the GSA's largest buildings.
"We have major smart buildings initiatives that are changing our organizational charts,” said Larry Melton, Assistant Commissioner, Facility Management and Services Programs. “We are creating new building design standards, utilizing Energy Services Performance Contracts and revolutionizing our workplace practices. GSA BuildingLink adds an additional dimension by leveraging the cloud and building analytics to reduce energy and operational costs."
Building Analytics are proving to be the perfect antidote to the financial paradox of having to lower energy and operational expense while not having much capital budget to do so. The GSA determined (as have others in the industry) that this is one of the most cost-efficient, lasting ways to reduce energy and operational costs and they are already making plans to expand the program.
The most recent IBcon event in Las Vegas featured building analytics in multiple educational sessions, and many agreed analytics took top billing for ‘buzz’ at the conference (and even in the industry as a whole).
The GSA has publicly stated that one important role for the government in this effort is to share information, experiences and best practices with the broader industry. We will continue to bring you updates on installation, management and results from the GSA BuildingLink project.
